Wout van Aert: “I Have Coffins that Others Don’t Have”

Wout van Aert, a Belgian professional cyclist, has already announced that he won’t be engaging in much experimentation this season. As he prepares for the spring classics, he is sticking to a tried-and-tested strategy. What exactly is on the horizon for him?

In the run-up to the Tour of Flanders, Van Aert has opted for the same high-altitude training camp that proved effective last year. According to Het Nieuwsblad, Van Aert is following this routine in an effort to perform at his best. “To be at my absolute best level for the Tour of Flanders, I’ve chosen, just like last year, to do an altitude camp after the Belgian opening weekend,” says Van Aert. He further elaborates on why this approach works for him.

“I felt really good with that plan. Last year, I finished third in the E3 while still feeling some fatigue from the altitude camp. After a few days of rest, I felt great leading up to and during the start of Dwars Door Vlaanderen (four days before the Tour of Flanders),” he explains during the media day for his team, Visma-Lease a Bike, in Spain. However, despite the promising build-up, things didn’t go as planned.

The Tour of Flanders, one of the most prestigious one-day races in cycling, was set to be the focal point of his spring campaign. But despite the solid preparation and high hopes, Van Aert’s journey took an unexpected turn. His performance did not align with the expectations he had set for himself, highlighting the unpredictable nature of competitive cycling, where even the most meticulously laid plans can be derailed by unforeseen circumstances.

Despite the setbacks, Van Aert remains confident. He believes he possesses unique strengths that set him apart from his rivals. “I have advantages that others don’t have,” he states, referring to his versatility and ability to perform across different terrains and conditions. Whether it’s his prowess in the cobbled classics or his strength in sprint finishes, Van Aert continues to be a force to reckon with in the peloton.

As the cycling season progresses, fans are eager to see how Wout van Aert will perform in the upcoming races, especially with the Tour of Flanders on the horizon. With his strong work ethic, strategic approach, and confidence in his abilities, Van Aert will undoubtedly remain a key contender in the world of professional cycling.
