Urška Žigart, a Slovenian cyclist and partner to Tadej Pogačar, recently shared candid insights into their life together, shedding light on their humble lifestyle and deep connection. Despite living in the glamorous city of Monaco, the couple’s approach to life remains refreshingly down-to-earth, distancing themselves from the luxury-driven culture that often surrounds them.
Urška spoke about how she and Tadej live a simple life despite being surrounded by wealth and fame in Monaco. “Some people find it necessary in Monaco to show off their luxurious lives. We don’t. Tadej and I also just go to Carrefour in our tracksuits to do our shopping,” she explained. This down-to-earth attitude stems from their shared roots in a small Slovenian village, where both she and Tadej learned the value of simplicity. Monaco, while a hub for the rich and famous, is, in Urška’s eyes, just another small community, and how you live there is entirely up to the individual.
The couple’s life together is full of little surprises, and Urška recalled how Tadej, despite his massive success, had never felt the need to flaunt his wealth. “He finally dared to reward himself with something he had been dreaming of for so long: a Porsche,” she shared, noting Tadej’s love for fast cars. However, she also emphasized that Tadej would never post about it on social media, and even their family was unaware of the purchase. This speaks volumes about Tadej’s character—modest, unassuming, and unaffected by the fame and fortune that come with being one of the world’s best cyclists.
Urška also touched on how their relationship has weathered the challenges that often come with fame. “When Tadej suddenly started to become successful, people warned me, ‘pay attention, Urška. Money and fame, it does something to a person.’ But Tadej is still Tadej,” she said with a sense of pride and reassurance. Tadej’s grounded nature has been a constant, which helps to maintain their solid connection despite the pressures of his career.
However, their relationship isn’t without its quirks. Urška admitted that she struggles to watch Tadej’s high-speed descents during races, often opting to do household chores instead. “I haven’t dared to watch Tadej’s descents for a long time,” she laughed, explaining how she can still hear the race commentary from another room but prefers to avoid the stress of watching him take risks.
The couple’s personalities complement each other perfectly—Tadej is spontaneous and calm, while Urška is more of a perfectionist and tends to worry. “He calms me down and I help him plan the more serious things. We take good care of each other,” she explained. Their mutual support is evident, and it’s clear that they bring out the best in one another.
Urška also shared a heartwarming anecdote about a time when she was angry with Tadej, and her mother reminded her of how deeply Tadej loved her. “My mother said: ‘Urška, don’t you see how that boy looks at you? He’s the best thing that could have happened to you,'” Urška recalled, realizing in that moment the depth of their bond.
