In a tragic incident on Lido Key, Sarasota, two coworkers were found dead following a fatal altercation at a rental property. The Sarasota Police Department reported that the men, aged 32 and 50, were in the area for work and had been staying at the rental arranged by their employer.
The confrontation occurred late at night, with surveillance footage capturing the escalation. According to a 911 caller who reviewed the security video, one of the men emerged from the house with a bloody head and shirt, followed by the other. The two engaged in a physical fight outside the property, eventually falling into nearby trees before standing up and continuing to yell at each other.
The following morning, around 9 a.m., a maid discovered one of the men’s bodies near a black pickup truck outside the rental. Authorities were alerted, and upon arrival, they found both individuals deceased. Investigators recovered a knife at the scene but have not located a second weapon. The exact cause of the dispute remains under investigation.
Residents of the typically peaceful Lido Key neighborhood expressed shock and sorrow over the incident. Sally Esser, a neighbor, recounted, “I didn’t hear anything, I live right next door. I was taking the trash out and that’s when I saw all the officers.” She added, “I feel bad for the families, I feel bad for these two men, I feel bad that this incident happened especially on our quiet little Lido.”
The Sarasota Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances leading to the fatal confrontation. They are reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing potential witnesses to piece together the events that culminated in this tragedy. Authorities have not yet released the identities of the deceased, pending notification of their families.
