A Las Vegas judge recently upheld the murder charge against Duane “Keffe D” Davis, the only individual facing prosecution for the 1996 killing of rap icon Tupac Shakur. Clark County District Court Judge Carli Kierny ruled that Davis’ attempt to have his case dismissed due to alleged immunity deals failed. Davis, 61, had argued that he should not be charged with the murder due to agreements he believed he made with federal and local authorities during interviews he gave in the late 1990s and early 2000s. However, Judge Kierny dismissed these claims, stating that Davis provided no evidence of such immunity and confirming that Nevada authorities had never offered any such deal.
Davis’ lawyer, Carl Arnold, described the case as a violation of his client’s constitutional rights, citing the 27-year delay in prosecuting the case. Arnold suggested they may appeal the judge’s decision to the state’s Supreme Court in the coming days. Prosecutors, on the other hand, emphasized that Davis had failed to show any proof of immunity and pointed to substantial evidence
