Ryan Villopoto Responds to Eli Tomac and Malcolm Stewart’s Criticism of Ricky Carmichael

In a recent outburst that’s shaking the Supercross community, Ryan Villopoto has expressed his frustration over Eli Tomac and Malcolm Stewart’s recent trash talk regarding the legendary Ricky Carmichael. Villopoto, a former champion himself, did not hold back in voicing his opinion on the matter, praising Carmichael’s unmatched legacy and condemning Tomac and Stewart for their disrespect.

Villopoto’s comments come after both Eli Tomac and Malcolm Stewart made controversial statements about Carmichael in the media. Tomac, who is widely considered one of the most talented riders of his generation, made remarks that questioned Carmichael’s place in the sport, a sentiment that Villopoto strongly disagrees with. While Villopoto acknowledged Tomac’s skills and respect for him as a rider, he was quick to point out that Tomac should never downplay Carmichael’s incredible impact on the sport. According to Villopoto, Tomac may be a great rider, but he is “nothing near Carmichael.”

Carmichael, who is widely regarded as the Greatest of All Time (GOAT) in Supercross, has set standards and records that few, if any, have been able to touch. His dominance on the track and contributions to the sport have earned him immense respect from both past and present riders, and Villopoto believes that anyone in the sport should give Carmichael the accolades he deserves. Villopoto called on Tomac to respect Carmichael’s legacy and recognize that no matter how successful Tomac has been, Carmichael is the one who defined the sport for a generation.

In addition to his criticism of Tomac, Villopoto also had strong words for Malcolm Stewart. Stewart, still climbing the ranks in Supercross, had made disparaging comments about Carmichael. Villopoto, however, did not mince words in his response, calling Stewart a “little boy in the world of Supercross” who is “nowhere near Carmichael.” He emphasized that Stewart, as a rising star in the sport, should focus on improving his own performance rather than trash-talking the sport’s greatest. Villopoto’s message was clear: “We’re in Carmichael’s world,” and young riders like Stewart should show the same level of respect that veterans like Villopoto have always had for the GOAT.

The underlying message from Villopoto is one of humility and respect. As one of the most accomplished riders in Supercross history, Villopoto understands what it takes to reach the top. However, he also recognizes that it’s important to acknowledge the riders who paved the way. Ricky Carmichael’s dominance in the sport cannot be denied, and Villopoto is making sure that both Tomac and Stewart—along with everyone in Supercross—understand that they must respect Carmichael’s legendary status.

In a sport as competitive as Supercross, where rivalries run deep, Villopoto’s words serve as a powerful reminder that respect is earned, and for Ricky Carmichael, it is indisputable.
