Feels Like The First Time
The 2025 Daytona Supercross lived up to its high expectations, delivering the excitement and drama that fans have come to expect from this iconic event. The buzz around this year’s race was all about the possibility of a new winner, and in a thrilling turn of events, the fans got exactly what they hoped for. Veteran rider Ken Roczen, who had long been considered an underdog, broke through and secured his first Daytona victory, marking a monumental moment in his career.
“This is definitely up there as one of my best main event wins ever, and it’s pretty surreal because I’ve actually been pretty far away from it here,” said Roczen, reflecting on his incredible win. The race, known for its grueling conditions and demanding track, saw Roczen rise above the competition, showing both skill and mental fortitude. The win was made even sweeter by the fact that he was able to fend off the late charge of title contender Cooper Webb, who has made a habit of hunting down leaders in the final laps. However, this time, Webb’s relentless pursuit ended in frustration, as a mistake in a rutted turn sealed his fate.
“I made too many mistakes,” Webb admitted after the race. Despite his efforts, Webb could not catch Roczen, who had been steadily maintaining his lead throughout the main event. Webb settled for second place, while Aaron Plessinger took third for his first podium of the season, giving him and his fans something to cheer about.
Roczen’s victory was the result of a disciplined and focused performance. “I stayed focused and really took it section by section,” Roczen explained. “Everyone was going fast at the beginning and kind of yo-yo-ing. I knew I had to make passes quickly, or these guys would retaliate. I had some good lines. I just kept my focus throughout the main event, and that was important.” His ability to consistently hit key sections of the track and stay calm under pressure ultimately helped him secure the win.
This victory at Daytona has not only provided Roczen with a well-deserved moment of triumph but has also reaffirmed his status as a title contender for the season. Outside of a tough night in Tampa, he’s been strong throughout the year, starting with a heat race win at Anaheim 1. “It was very reassuring,” Roczen said. “This is round eight, and I’ve never really done that good at Daytona, but I really have nothing to lose. I just keep doing my thing and trust in my decisions, and for now, it’s paying off.”
As the 2025 season continues, Roczen’s victory serves as a reminder that experience and determination can lead to unexpected victories. He may have won Daytona, but for Roczen, it’s just another step toward his larger goal. “I just need a few minutes to myself to really process what it’s like to win Daytona,” he added, clearly soaking in the significance of the achievement.
For fans, the win was a testament to the unpredictable nature of Supercross and the relentless drive of athletes like Ken Roczen, who continue to push their limits and defy expectations.
