Eli Tomac’s performance in the AMA Supercross 450 main event in Anaheim on January 11th could have easily ended in disaster, but his resilience saw him through to a commendable fifth-place finish despite a major setback mid-race.
The Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha rider, who has been a dominant force in Supercross for years, was looking to capitalize on his strong start when disaster struck with just 17 minutes remaining in the race. Tomac suffered a fall while navigating a section of the track, and his crash created a moment of high tension as he tumbled to the ground.
Adding to the drama, a fellow competitor, Chase Sexton of Red Bull KTM, was closely trailing Tomac when the incident occurred. Unable to avoid Tomac’s downed bike, Sexton collided with his rival in a low-speed crash. Fortunately, the impact was not severe, and no major injuries resulted from the incident.
Tomac quickly regrouped and was able to remount his Yamaha machine. Despite the setback, he demonstrated exceptional composure, getting back into the groove and pushing through the pain to finish in a respectable fifth position. Meanwhile, Jett Lawrence, riding for Honda HRC Progressive, also faced a difficult night. After suffering a second fall, Lawrence’s rough start to the 2025 Supercross season continued as he struggled to recover from the mishap. Despite his best efforts, he finished in a disappointing 12th place, leaving him with a lot to work on as the season progresses.
While the Anaheim event didn’t go as smoothly as either Tomac or Lawrence might have hoped, it was a testament to the unpredictability of Supercross and the resilience required from riders to navigate its challenges.
