Eli Tomac Recovery Update: My Final Check-up is the Six-Week Mark, I can still be the Top Guy

Eli Tomac Update: Could He Be Back Before Supercross Ends?

Eli Tomac, one of the most successful and respected riders in Supercross, is on the mend after suffering an injury, but he’s holding onto hope that he will return to action before the end of the season. Tomac recently caught up with Donn Maeda to provide an update on his recovery, confirming that he’s still targeting a return to Supercross in 2025.

Tomac shared that his recovery is expected to take around six weeks, with his final check-up scheduled at that time. “It should be around a six-week recovery. That’s when I believe I get the green light to do normal things,” Tomac said. He remains optimistic that if everything progresses as planned, he will be cleared for training and race preparation. “I have an idea of coming back for the last few Supercross races if things go the way I think they will,” Tomac continued. “I don’t think there’s any question I’ll be back for the last few Supercross. I want to get more gate drops in before motocross, that’s my goal right now.”

The six-time champion also recounted the injury that led to his current recovery. Tomac revealed that he had ridden a race with a broken leg, an experience he described as “pretty messed up.” “It’s amazing what you can push your body through,” he said after reviewing his x-ray, which showed the extent of the injury. Despite the severity of the break, Tomac endured the pain, though he admitted the whoops section of the track was the most difficult. “Killing me,” he admitted.

The injury had initially been misdiagnosed. After practice, Tomac believed he had simply sprained his ankle, and he didn’t immediately seek medical attention. He walked off the track, thinking it was just a twisted ankle, and treated it on his own. It wasn’t until after the heat race, when the pain became unbearable, that he went to the medics. Tomac now believes the fracture in his fibula went undetected due to an unclear x-ray and the way the injury presented itself. “I think there was a small fracture at the time when it was missed,” Tomac explained.

Despite the frustration of not catching the injury sooner, Tomac is taking responsibility for not seeking medical attention earlier. “I can even blame myself for not going in there, having that pain level, after practice,” he admitted.

Looking forward, Tomac is focused on making a comeback before Supercross concludes and is eager to return to racing. Even though 2025 marks his final SuperMotocross season, Tomac is not treating it as a farewell tour. Instead, he is determined to finish strong and continue competing at the highest level, aiming to show that he can still be the “top guy” in the sport.

With a career filled with success and accolades, Tomac is not stepping away from the sport just yet. His intensity and tenacity remain as strong as ever, and fans can expect him to give his all when he returns to the track. The road ahead might be challenging, but Tomac’s desire to win is as strong as ever, and his journey is far from over.
