The U.S. election season is almost upon us, with the equilibrium hanging over the future of present president Donald Trump. While the Democrats are debating in the hopes of deducting a favourite party, Republicans are left to strategize on how best to maintain their foothold. Since many celebrities have publicly lambasted Donald Trump, including no shortage of hip-hop icons, it is no wonder that some use their impact to guide the course. Cardi B has recently placed most of its weight behind Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders, going as far as being the centerpiece of his recent campaign video.

Cardi has not entered the political forum for the first time, and it would appear that her participation has ruffled a couple of Republican feathers. One of those tired of Cardi’s political aspirations is Candace Owens, Conservative thinker and former friend of Kanye West. Owens struck her with the Conservative go-to blow in reaction to Cardi’s increasing participation: the high-profile discussion challenge. Owens posted the Twitter challenge, placing $250,000 on the line.

“I see that @iamcardib is politically advocating for Bernie Sanders with claims that Trump is bad,” wrote Owens, in the initial tweet. “I would like publicly offer 250k to a political campaign of her choosing if she will publicly debate her stance with either myself or ANY black conservative I choose.”

Owens elaborated on her frustrations via Instagram, explaining that Conservatives are tired of artists attempting to Sway the course of the political discourse. “I am getting tired of cultural icons misleading their fans into political parties but being unwilling to have their positions challenged,” she writes. “I think Cardi and I can showcase healthy debate and discussion amongst minorities, while allowing those that follow us to make a more informed decision.”

Though Cardi didn’t quite accept the challenge, she did respond to Owen’s Tweets with an explanation of her own position. “My actual goal is to educate the Youth on our candidates,” she writes. “To advocate and spread the message on ANY candidate they chose to support .The same way you do for your favorite. That is all.” Cardi’s reaction spurred another one from Owens, although all indications point to this one being a situation of one-and-done sort. Do you believe the discussion would be interesting? And, moreover, do you think that only those familiar with politics should have political discussion?
