Angry Nick Kyrgios was Heard Calling Jacob Fearnley “f------ Challenger player” during AO loss
Nick Kyrgios’ much-anticipated return to Grand Slam tennis at the 2024 Australian Open ended in disappointment as he fell to British debutant Jacob Fearnley in straight sets, 7-6(3), 6-3, 7-6(2).
Despite being one of the game’s most feared servers before his injuries, Kyrgios struggled with his power and consistency, leading to visible frustration. At one point, he was heard lamenting his decreased serve speed, comparing himself unfavorably to Fearnley, whom he dismissed as a “Challenger player.”
“F—— serving 205(km/h) when I can serve 230(km/h),” Kyrgios was heard saying
The Australian also revealed during the match that he was dealing with a Grade 1 abdominal strain, questioning his own decision to play through the injury. Fearnley, however, remained composed and focused, serving 17 aces to Kyrgios’ 13and ultimately securing his first-ever Grand Slam main draw victory.
After the match, Fearnley expressed sympathy for Kyrgios’ struggles but emphasized his own enjoyment of the experience, appreciating the atmosphere and support from the crowd.
