In recent days, Barcelona has dedicated all of their resources to the acquisition of Nico Williams. In fact, their pursuit of a new focal midfielder seems to have been relegated to the background.

A transfer for the Spain midfielder and Real Sociedad player Mikel Merino has been the subject of much discussion; however, the Blaugrana appear to be prioritizing Nico and Dani Olmo at the moment.

Arsenal may capitalize on an opportunity.

SPORT has reported that Arsenal are prepared to increase their efforts in their pursuit of Mikel Merino, which could potentially open the door for Arsenal to make a move for the 28-year-old talent.

In fact, Mikel Arteta and his team are eager to swiftly transition to their next target, a central midfielder, with Riccardo Calafiori’s acquisition nearly complete. Merino is a primary consideration.

Arteta has demonstrated a strong desire to acquire Merino, who is also one of the primary targets for Hansi Flick’s team.

Arsenal’s negotiations are conducted at an accelerated tempo, in stark contrast to Can Barça’s cautious approach, which is necessitated by financial constraints that are compelling Flick to prioritize his transfer list.

Currently, Joan Laporta and Deco are dedicating their entire attention to the acquisition of Nico. Olmo will then be the next to be considered, and the negotiations with Real Sociedad for Merino will conclude.

Arteta perceives no issue with securing the 28-year-old. Additionally, the fact that he is in the final year of his contract with Real Sociedad would be a favorable factor in determining a reasonable asking price of approximately €25-30 million.

Therefore, Barcelona must act promptly if they are truly interested in acquiring Merino to fortify their midfield.
